The Kelowna Chiefs took a three-goal lead into the third period and hung on for a 4-2 victory tonight over the Summerland Steam in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action in Summerland.

Myles Mattila scored the opening goal of the game in the first period and assisted on Kayson’s Gallant’s marker early in the second to lead the Chiefs, who won their ninth game in 10 starts. Their only loss was a 5-4 overtime decision in Princeton a week ago.

Cory Loring and Liam McLaren scored consecutive goals in the third period to bring the Steam to with a goal before Kent’s insurance marker.

The Chiefs are back on the ice Saturday when they play host to the  Creston Valley Thunder Cats at the Rutland Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
