Meet Angel Stewart! She has lived in PG since 1995, and she never plans on leaving!
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My students & staff! I love my students so much, they are my family. They are all so encouraging towards each other, and my staff are so incredible, helpful and kind. They are my happy place!
What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
Reflex Supplements. I love the people, the products, everything! I'm a little biased since I am the manager of the store, but I even go there on my days off just to hang out! Girlfriends Brow Bar would be my #2 choice. They are so incredible there!
Describe yourself in one word.
I asked my students to help me with this one, and the top three were "Caring" "Enthusiastic" and "Sexy".
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Costa Rica! I've been there once before, and it's such a beautiful country! Their ecosystem is such a high priority there and there are MONKEYS!!! haha, seeing wild monkeys in the trees was my favorite part of my visit.
What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
Floating the River! I absolutely love getting 15-20 of my friends together on floaties and floating from Wilkins Park to Cottonwood Park. Its usually the highlight of my summer.
What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
I was trying to unlock my car, and I tried three times and it wasn't working. Then suddenly I noticed a person waving at me in the car….it was the wrong car!
What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
When my studio burned in 2013, and dozens of local people and businesses got together and helped us raise $14,000 in four days, so we could open up a new location and keep going. I still tear up telling that story. Prince George community inspired me!
Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
My first PG winter, I was 11, and myself and my siblings built snow forts and snow bunnies and snow everything! I think our yard was covered in snow creations!
Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Wherever I can! As a business owner, I give donations to every silent auction that requests one. Some, like the Team Norah bake sale, are extra fun because the organizers are friends of mine, so its a bit more personal for me.
If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I would get rid of being judgmental. I wish everybody could be more accepting of others regardless of their background, beliefs, income, clothing, speech etc. The world would have so many fewer problems if we just loved.
Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Home, haha. My house is the quietest spot I know.
Where would you like to see positive change in Prince George and why?
I would like to see more people shopping local. Online shopping is a big thing to contend with, but shopping locally and supporting PG as a whole is SO important!
What do you think makes Prince George great?
The people and the culture in general. PG has a great sense of community and helping others as a whole. Every time I see a good deed or great cause on social media, I love this city a little more.
What are 3 things on your bucket list?
– Go to Jamaica. I've just always wanted to
– Buy a house. It sounds like a small thing to most, but its a big one for me
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I Graduated CNC with a Writing and New Media Diploma in 2004. Which means I'm a desktop publisher by trade.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
@angelpoedancer @AngelsAerialFitness and Facebook.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Angel's Aerial Fitness Ltd.
Why did you get into/start this business?
I started with just pole fitness in my house. Nobody else was teaching, but there was a LOT of people who wanted to learn, so I took my teachers certification course and started in 2008!
What is the goal of your business?
Angel's Aerial Fitness Ltd.
What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Fighting the stigma that comes with pole fitness has been my biggest struggle with work. It's not what many assume it is. However, MOST people realize this now.
If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Exactly the same. I've loved every minute of my journey and have no regrets!
What do you always find yourself saying?
Again, I asked my students for help. Top three most used phrases were "Point Your Toes!" "You got this!" and "Grace comes with ease. Ease comes with practice"
Tell us your best piece of life advice
Discover New Goals! Keep trying new things and pushing towards new finish lines! You'll be blown away by what you can accomplish!!
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Felix Cane, and AustralianPole Dancer and Entrepreneur extraordinaire! Or Fawnia Dietrich, who started Pole Fitness in Canada in Vancouver 1994. She now runs POLE EXPO in Vegas, which is the largest event in the industry. I would learn a lot from both of these women!
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Because when we support local we support ourselves. From an economic view, it can ONLY help us as a whole. From a community standpoint, it continues to build a sense of community and family when we help each other out.
What has been your proudest accomplishment?
My students. They are physically, mentally and emotionally stronger because of the studio. I am INCREDIBLY proud of them and of what I see the studio, as its own family accomplishing in our members.
Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
Riley Mueller! He's like a brother to me, and has bailed me out of messes, and helped me to where I am now more that anybody knows!
My choice for the PrinceGeorgeNow In Focus spotlight is:
Brad Messum.
