It’s hard to drive through the B.C. Interior without navigating some sort of mountain pass.

For some cars, the mountainous terrain isn’t the most ideal and for most cars it can be a struggle during snowy winters.

That’s why it’s not a surprise when Transportation BC says one of it’s most frequently asked questions is, “what’s the flattest route across B.C.?”

Transportation BC has finally thrown travellers a bone and answered that question and, unsurprisingly, the route doesn’t include the Coquihalla, Okanagan Connector or any time in the Kootenays.

It likely takes travellers a bit north of where they want to go in Alberta, but if you’re heading anywhere north of Red Deer, it’s not a bad route.

So without further adieu, here’s the flattest route across B.C. from west to east, which you can obviously flip and do in reverse if you’re heading west.

1. Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal (Victoria) to Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal (Vancouver)
2. Vancouver to Hope via Hwy 1
3. Hope to Cache Creek via Hwy 1
4. Cache Creek to Kamloops via Hwy 1
5. Kamloops to Tête Jaune Cache via Hwy 5
6. Tête Jaune Cache to the Alberta Border via Hwy 16
