  • Kelowna housing starts stay hot in June

Housing starts stayed hot in Kelowna in June, but 2018’s year-to-date numbers are still well behind 2017’s.

Construction began on 301 units of housing in Kelowna in June, well above the 211 units that got underway in June 2017.

That brings the year-to-date total in 2018 to 1,287, which doesn’t come close to 2017’s blistering pace of 1,855 as we reach the year’s half way mark.

This June’s strong numbers were fueled by the construction of nearly 200 apartment units getting underway.

Apart from apartment starts, numbers for other types of dwellings were quite similar between June 2017 and June 2018.

There were also more competitions in June 2018 then June 2017, with work on 178 units finishing up last month compared to 165 units in June one year ago.

There are now 3,847 housing units under construction in Kelowna, a 123 unit spike from May and up 255 units from March.
