  • PG RCMP receive over 100 calls on Canada Day

    July 1 wasn’t just a busy day for party-goers.

Prince George RCMP received and responded to 132 calls on July 1, with an additional 128 calls on July 2.

Calls varied from noise complaints, alcohol-related incidents and disturbances.

A few cases of note include:

    Prohibited driver

At around 2 a.m. on July 1, RCMP conducted a road safety check on Highway 16 near Peden Hill.

A known prohibited driver provided a false name to officer’s when stopped at the roadblock.

One of the officers recognized the driver and knew of his prohibition.

The driver was arrested for obstruction and driving while prohibited. The vehicle was also searched and RCMP found a weapon, a small amount of drugs and a large amount of cash. All were seized.

    Possible shots fired

At around 2 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP responded to the report of possible shots fired on the 400 block of Ogilvie Street.

No evidence of gunshots was found and no other reports were received.

While clearing the residence for safety, a 34-year-old male was found in possession of a significant amount of drugs including fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

    Attempted break-in

At 7 p.m., RCMP received a call of a male attempting to break-in to an occupied residence. Members attended and found the suspect soaking himself with a hose on the front lawn.

The male was in a state of panic and uncooperative.

It is believed that he was pepper sprayed, not by police, and was suffering the effects.

    Home invasion assault

On Monday, July 2, at around 1 p.m., RCMP received a report of a home invasion assault at a residence on the 300 block of Carney Street.

Members believe that an adult male kicked in the door to the home and began assaulting an adult male before fleeing on foot.

A 41-year-old male was arrested and has been charged with the following:

    • Break, enter and commit
    • Assault
    • Mischief under $5,000
