Meet Amy Rasmussen! This Vanderhoof native has lived in PG for three years!

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My boyfriend, Kyle. We can talk about anything and get into really deep conversations. No matter what we do, whether it's shopping for groceries or watching Netflix, it's always a fun time with non-stop laughs.

What is your favourite local store in Prince George and why?
Active Body Nutrition PG! The staff there are always there to listen and provide an all-around awesome atmosphere for customers. I'm also very passionate about Health & Fitness.

    Describe yourself in one word.
    Goal-oriented.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Europe! The culture and history over there is something that I am super interested in learning about and experiencing.

What is your favourite activity in Prince George?
Anything outdoors.. whether that be climbing the cutbanks, going on a hike, or cross-country skiing.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Too many embarrassing things to count! Embarrassing moments are a daily thing for me.

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Competing in Bodybuilding/Fitness competitions as well as getting accepted into Physiotherapy in the UK. I think in both situations I inspired myself a bit because a long time ago I would never have thought I was capable of doing and accomplishing either.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
Christmas has always been the best memories for me. My family is very traditional so lots of food, games and good company!

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
I have volunteered with the fitness testing of the PG Cougars last year and I was also a volunteer student Physiotherapist for all the UNBC varsity teams this passed year. I also like to help out with events here in PG, most recently the Northern Ice Festivus games and the Xconditioning powerlifting meet.

Where would you sneak away to in Prince George to spend some time alone?
Otway for a solo cross country ski or trail run.

What do you think makes Prince George great?
The smaller size and sense of community that you don't get in a bigger city.

What are 3 things on your bucket list?
Live and experience a different culture.

Open my own Health & Wellness Clinic later on in my career.

Bungee Jump or Skydive… something to tackle my fear of heights!

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
    I very much dislike cats.

How do people connect with you, personally, through social media?
    Facebook or Instagram.

What is the name of your business/organization?
    Above & Beyond Fit.

Why did you get into/start this business?
I saw the way that getting fit and maintaining a truly healthy lifestyle changed my life and I feel compelled to play my part in helping others achieve this.

What is the goal of your business?
To help people and educate them on what Health & Fitness truly means and help get rid of all the inaccurate and misinterpreted information out there!

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
Perfectionism and sometimes working TOO hard towards my goals. I've learned in the process that balance is 100% necessary.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
Everything that has happened to me has lead me to where I am and where I am going now. I wouldn't change a thing.

What do you always find yourself saying?
I think I need more workout clothes… lol.

Tell us your best piece of life advice
Put in the work, always. Even if you don't see the rewards right away. You will never regret the person you become and the personal attributes you acquire from raising your expectations of yourself.

If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
    Oprah Winfrey or Joe Rogan.

Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
Locally owned businesses here in PG are the best! The service and overall experience are second to none. Not to mention that a lot of local businesses support other things in the community. Shopping locally is a win for everyone!

What has been your proudest accomplishment?
Graduating CNC with Honours in Kinesiology.

Give someone you think that deserves it a shout out and explain why!
All of my Fitness class participants and clients. They work so hard and I am forever grateful to be surrounded by such wonderful people.

My choice for the PrinceGeorgeNow In Focus spotlight is:
    Rhea Simpson.
