Travellers of Highway 16 will soon benefit from a resurfacing project near Prince George and McBride.

“Highway 16 experiences a high volume of commercial traffic, and is a key part of British Columbia’s trade corridor, connecting the ports in Prince Rupert and Stewart with the rest of the country,” said Claire Trevena, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure.

“We have promised safer roads for the people of B.C., and this work will make a big difference to all drivers.”

The project will consist of two resurfacings.

The first will include 36 km of Highway 16 between Josephine Road, west of Prince George and Hillcrest Way east of Vanderhoof.

Peters Brothers construction Ltd. from Penticton has been awarded the $8.6 million contract.

The second phase of the project will consist of resurfacing 20 km on Highway 16 from West Twin Creek to Bell Mountain Road.

This project was originally scheduled for last summer but due to a delay in provincial wildfires, it was moved.

Green Roads Recycling Ltd. from Fernie has been awarded the $2.3 million contract. 

Both of these projects are set to start in June 2018 with completion aimed for the fall.
