As the weather warms up and the flooding risk increases, the Prince George Search and Rescue crew is preparing to be called into action.

As part of the search and rescue, volunteers will work alongside RCMP and local authorities to help with evacuations.

Last year during the Cariboo fires, the search and rescue played a major role in providing evacuation assistance for well over a month.

Flooding has already started for residents living near the Fraser River, however, search and rescue members have not yet been called into action.

“There have been very limited impacts so far. A few houses here and a few houses there. Local authorities have been able to manage on their own,” said search manager Dale Bul.

Members have been practising their tactics for when they are called upon for help. 

According to the search and rescue, a full day exercise was done a couple weeks back in order to prepare for this year and what might be asked of them.

Volunteers were able to practice their systems for tracking evacuation notices which will allow them to be delivered more efficiently.

With rising weekend temperatures and the chance of rain, flooding is expected to increase over the long weekend.
