The City of Prince George is alerting residents living on Farrell Street near Paddlewheel Park that there is a significant risk of flooding.

Residents are advised to be ready to evacuate properties on short notice should an order be issued. Yesterday evening, members of the Prince George Fire Rescue Services issued evacuation alerts to 18 homes.

As of now, no evacuation orders have been given.

The Fraser River is currently near the 9.0m mark. Flooding is expected to start when the river reaches 9.4m.

According to the B.C. River Forecast Centre, the river may begin to reach flooding levels later this week.

Residents are urged to have an emergency kit readily available in order to leave quickly.

The city has obtained about 365 m of gabion diking from the province. Crews will soon begin installing it along Farrell Street and Regents Crescent.

Road access is being kept open at this time.

A load of sand has also been delivered to the north end of Farrell Street for those who wish to begin sandbagging. To obtain sandbags, call the City Service Centre at (250)561-7600.
