  • Kevin Smith in hospital following ‘massive heart attack’

Kevin Smith is recovering in hospital after a massive heart attack on Sunday.

The director tweeted out a picture around midnight on Monday that showed him in a hospital gown and hooked up to various tubes.

“After the first show this evening, I had a massive heart attack,” he explained. “The doctor who saved my life told me I had 100% blockage of my (left anterior descending) artery (AKA the widow-maker).”

Smith added that he was told if he hadn’t cancelled the second of his two Sunday shows to go to the hospital, he would have died.

“But for now, I’m still above ground!”

The 47-year-old’s tweet was met with plenty of well wishes, including a message from actor Chris Pratt.

“Kevin, we don’t know each other too good, but I have loved you since Clerks and I’m praying my ass off for you cause I believe in the healing power of prayer,” tweeted the Guardians of the Galaxy star.

Smith is best known for writing, directing, producing and acting in the comedy film Clerks, in which he played Silent Bob.
