Volunteering as a coach in any sport at the grassroots level can be a thankless job.

Early morning practices, long weekend road trips, and demanding parents are just some of the challenges of the job that often happens after the real work day is complete.

“It’s important to recognize that sports at a grassroots level, which is 95% of sport, is powered by volunteers,” said Ty Summach, Co-Founder of ProSmart Sports. “It’s easy to see that the majority of volunteers aren’t set up for success, especially the coaches.”

“The e-learning platform provides a direct connection with professionals in the sport. All participants have easy and equal access to the best information their sport has to offer, hence the name ProSmart.”

The Okanagan in a well-known summer spot for professional athletes. According to ProSmart, as many as 100 NHL pros, including ProSmart co-founders and former NHLers Wade Redden and Cory Cross, live in the region.

As a sport, hockey is economically challenging for families and volunteers, which is why ProSmart chose to focus on making hockey more accessible to athletes.
