Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I'm from Waterloo, Ontario and first came to Kelowna in 2007.
Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
My partner is my favourite person and that is why I chose to spend my life in partnership with him.
If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
I'd go to the Yukon because it's vast and humbling and full of funny folks.
What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
One Big Table Co-op. It's the best grocery store in town, full of products made only in BC.
What is your favourite activity?
I have two little girls. I can't remember my favourite activities, but I look forward to a day when I will have time to recall and enjoy them again.
What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Biking to the beach after a day of work, jumping into the lake, then biking home.
Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Paul's Tomb or Rose Valley.
Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I would love to see the bike lane on Bernard Avenue be revamped to feel more safe. I always fear a car door hitting me as I cycle downtown with my children in tow.
What do you think makes Kelowna great?
Kelowna is an interesting place to live for me, because there is a lot of progress to be made as far as becoming a more progressive and inclusive city in BC.
Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I was hit by a car when I was a kid and the driver was my school crossing guard.
How do people connect with you, personally, through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
I am a ludite. It's easier to find me at the Bean Scene than using social media.
What is the name of your business/organization?
Malachite Midwives.
Why did you get into/start this business?
We started our midwifery practice in Kelowna because there was a need for midwives and out-of-hospital birthing options in Kelowna.
What is the goal of your business?
Our goal when founding Malachite Midwives was to provide a woman-centred model of maternity care, empowering families to make their own choices throughout their childbearing journeys.
What do you always find yourself saying?
I always come back to telling 'mom jokes.' I can't stop.
If you could spend one whole day with anyone in the world who is currently alive, who would you select?
Michael Singer; he is a straight-up contemporary teacher who promotes living a life of integrity.
Why do you think it is important to shop locally?
This city caters to tourist needs enough; it's important to keep our support and our transactions within our year-round community.
