On August 26th 1920, women in the United States earned their right to vote for the first time. 97 years later, this day is celebrated all over, marking the day as Women’s Equality Day.

Canadian women earned their right as early as 1916 in some provinces under specific conditions, but this sweet victory sparked a fight for true equality.
The “Famous Five,” a group of five Canadian women from Alberta were soon widely recognized and became a symbol of equality from their efforts in the Persons Case, which allowed women to become eligible to sit in the Canadian Senate.
Some more famous women that have paved the way for women’s equality and shaped history include Maya Angelou, Rosa Parks, Helen Keller, Eleanor Roosevelt, just to name a few.
