UPDATE: Coquihalla now open between Merritt and Hope

(UPDATE: Dec. 17 @ 2:53 pm) – The Coquihalla has reopened northbound between Hope and Merritt.

A snowfall warning remains in place for the route.

(Original story: Dec. 17 @ 7:30 am) – It's shaping up to be another tough travel day.

The Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) was shut down between Merritt and Hope on Tuesday night and remains closed more than 12 hours later.

DriveBC says a "vehicle incident" is to blame and assessments are still in progress.

Hwy 5 was one of several major routes pounded with snow overnight with more expected to fall today.

Environment Canada has a snowfall warning in place for Hwy 5, along with the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C), the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) and Hwy 3 via Allison Pass.

The latter also remains closed at this time due to the current conditions and debris on the road from last week's atmospheric river event.

Engineering assessments are ongoing and there is no current estimate on when Hwy 3 will reopen between Princeton and Hope.

Snow, rain and wind has several BC highways closed or under travel advisories at this time and you can stay most up to date by visiting DriveBC before you hit the road.
