A trio of Okanagan schools had plenty to cheer about on Monday as some of their classmates returned from their weekend adventures with provincial titles in their respective sports. 

Over the weekend, volleyball teams from Kelowna Christian School and Immaculata Regional High School nabbed 1A provincial titles, while the Vernon Secondary School Panthers won the 2A BC football championship.

On Sunday, the Panthers dominated the Argyle Pipers en route to a 41-0 win at BC Place to secure the 2A championship. 

For Vernon, this year’s title win was redemption after falling to the Windsor Wolves 17-14 last year.

In Abbotsford on Saturday, the Kelowna Christian School Knights (KCS) defeated host St. John Brebeuf Regional Secondary School in four sets to win the 1A boys title.

The KCS Knights found themselves in the final after outlasting Vernon Christian School in a five-set semifinal battle.

The championship win for KCS marked the first time since 2016 that the boys' team was on top of their provincial volleyball division. 

The 1A girls tournament was held in the Kootenays, with Selkirk College in Castlegar and LV Rogers Secondary School in Nelson sharing hosting duties.

After defeating Houston Christian School in the semifinals, the Immaculata Mustangs defeated Sparwood Secondary School in four sets to win the title for the first time since 2015.

The girls' 4A tournament saw the Kelowna Secondary School Owls finish in third place, while Vernon Secondary School nabbed the bronze medal in the 3A category.
